Addressing RV Encampments
St. Joseph’s is a trusted organization that has supported people experiencing homelessness for many years. The organization recently expanded its operations to South Los Angeles. With the support of Supervisor Holly Mitchell, a pilot project was launched and scaled further to connect people living in recreational vehicles (RVs) with housing resources and support services to help them get back on their feet.

Racial Justice Learning Exchange Program
The Racial Justice Learning exchange is an initiative led by the Office of Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell and brings together county, civic, academic, and community leaders to eliminate structural racism in LA County.. Events include intervention training, community dialogues, screenings, and book conversations to address biases in our everyday lives.
Accountability in Public Safety
Measure A is a ballot measure that was approved by LA County voters, which provides the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors the authority to remove a Sheriff for misconduct or abuse of power. This measure aims to improve accountability in the Sheriff and the department.
Protecting Our Children & Youth – Human Trafficking
Major sporting events continue to be a prime location for human trafficking. Earlier this year, my office partnered with world boxing champion Laila Ali, and the advocacy organization, Athletes for Impact, to help inform game goers and residents in surrounding communities on how to spot and report human trafficking through the Knock Out Human Trafficking campaign.
Closing in on Vision Zero Street Safety to Save Lives
In August, we developed a Community Traffic Safety Plan to improve traffic safety in Ladera Heights/View Park-Windsor Hills and other high-risk intersections in the Second District by prioritizing speed reduction. We worked closely with community partners and the Department of Public Works to quickly implement this plan and ensure the safety of our constituents.
Expanding Internet Access
Closing Digital Divide
To address the digital divide in LA County, we approved a plan to invest $56 million from the American Rescue Plan Act to build out broadband infrastructure in high-need areas, which will benefit over 428,000 households that currently lack home internet, particularly those in low-income communities of color.
Serving the community through arts and culture
La Brea Tar Pits Museum
The La Brea Tar Pits is a historical landmark that has remained largely the same for decades. My office recently invested an initial $5 million to re-imagine the museum as a world-class research and educational facility, while ensuring we preserve and showcase the largest collection of Ice Age and Pleistocene fossils in the world. The goal of this investment is to provide visitors with an engaging and informative experience that also supports the scientific research and education that takes place at the site.
2nd District Arts Relief Grant Program - spotlight
To support organizations impacted by COVID-19, my office invested in grants to provide support for art organizations in the Second District. The funds were distributed to organizations that are recipients of the Department of Arts and Culture's Organizational Grant Program, as well as other arts nonprofits that are grantees of local municipal arts agencies within the County. To promote equity, priority was given to organizations with an operating budget of $15 million or less and small to mid-sized organizations that serve our most vulnerable communities.
Countywide Air Monitoring Plan
In September, the Board joined me in unanimously approving the launch of a Community Air Monitoring Program to better safeguard our unincorporated communities near active oil drilling wells. The phase out of oil drilling continues to be a top priority for my office and I am proud of the work we continue to do to ensure that the County is in complete alignment with new local and state policies and is proactively creating solutions to protect frontline communities near oil drilling sites.

Removing trash from waterways
In March of 2019, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a motion directing LA County Public Works to take steps to address trash in the Ballona Creek as a high priority. The Ocean Cleanup, a Dutch nonprofit, approached Public Works around the same time with a partnership opportunity to deploy an Interceptor in Los Angeles. The Ballona Interceptor Pilot Project launched in October to aid with the on-going work of preventing tons of trash that collects in the Ballona Creek from entering our nearby beaches. The Interceptor is only one piece of the County’s efforts to keep the Ballona Creek free of trash.
Health Justice
This year we increased the amount of mental health beds to well over 1,000 additional beds. One group of those beds is going to use mental health service act funds to create 400 beds for individuals in the Office of Diversion and Reentry (ODR) program. ODR provides services needed so that people are not automatically jailed or upon their release from jail they have the opportunity to receive the services they need so they can rejoin their communities.
Addressing inequities facing LGBTQIA+ communities
During November, in recognition of Transgender Awareness month, my office was proud to partner with the Translatin@ Coalition to put forth a motion co-authored by Supervisor Solis that calls for County departments, including the Department of Public Health to capture data on how LA County is serving our Transgender, Non-Confirming and Intersex residents. This will help identify any gaps and/or areas of improvement to strengthen the delivery of services and programs.
Anti-Displacement & Ownership for Small Business Tenants
In July, the Board of Supervisors approved my motion to create a pilot program to prevent small businesses in Leimert Park from being displaced. The Leimert Park acquisition pilot program allows for small businesses owners to stay in the communities they serve and thrive.

PLACEMENT COPY The Los Angeles County District 2 office has recently announced the opening of two new satellite locations in the surrounding area. These additional offices will provide residents with even greater access to important county services and support. The district is committed to ensuring that all members of the community have the resources they need to thrive, and these new offices are an important step in that direction.

Funding Community Based Organizations
This year over 200 Community Based Organizations located in and serving the Second District received funding to support the delivery of services and programs that improve the lives and communities of constituents. To learn more about applying for Second District Funding click here.
Budget Transparency
Increased community engagement and transparency around the Los Angeles County budgeting process is an ongoing commitment. This past year we hosted three virtual budget town halls for Second District residents to hear directly from County team members on how the budget comes together and to help inform the Second District budget priorities. Addressing A Historic Injustice
I am honored to now represent Manhattan Beach in the Second District and to have authored a motion with Supervisor Janice Hahn to return Bruce’s Beach to its rightful heirs, the great grandsons of Charles and Willa Bruce. This is just one specific example of how we can begin to bring restoration and justice to communities that have been systematically oppressed.
