Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair, Holly J. Mitchell, Supervisor for the Second District, released the following statement on the new Los Angeles County district lines approved by the County’s inaugural citizen redistricting commission:

I want to thank the residents who stepped up and volunteered to serve on the County’s first independent citizen redistricting commission and the community members who participated in this exercise in democracy. After a year of public hearings, we now have new lines for the largest County in the nation.

We know that these lines are more than geographic boundaries, they hold within them long-standing relationships to the places and people who make up our neighborhoods. Countless residents are learning that they now have a new Supervisor, and it is our job to make sure that their needs are being met. I am committed to working with my colleagues to ensure continuity in public service and resources for all of our residents.

As the Supervisor representing the Second District, I welcome our new communities that include: Larchmont Village, Marina Del Rey, Manhattan Beach, El Segundo, Redondo Beach, and one of the biggest economic drivers in the region, the Los Angeles International Airport. To the residents of Mar Vista, Palms, Cheviot Hills, Lynwood, and other communities I’ve had the honor of representing, my office will work closely with your new Supervisor to bridge information so that there is no gap in addressing the nuanced needs of our diverse neighborhoods.

The ability to live a dignified life should not be determined by your zip code. Redistricting is an opportunity for us to examine how we can more equitably represent the multitude of lived experiences that make up LA County. Our district maps will look different but our resolve to serving as one County must remain.
